Proverbs 3:12 "For whom the LORD loves He reproves, Even as a father, the son in whom he delights." NASB
The LORD loves us and one way he shows his love mirrors the way a loving father deals with his son. When that son the father loves steps out of line the father makes correction. Scripture uses the word "Reproves" (NASB) This comes from the Hebrew word yakach and is elsewhere translated to correct, chasten, convince. The point isn't about punishment rather setting things right with the son once again. When I was a kid and had a train set if I made it go too fast it would jump off the tracks. The idea here seems to be that the LORD will put those whom he loves back on the tracks. Right where I want to be. AMEN!
